POS Rumor is headed to CinemaCon 2018
Next week is the largest convention in the movie theater industry, CinemaCon 2018. It’s the official convention of the National Association of Theater Owners, or NATO. And we’re headed there on Sunday.
What is CinemaCon 2018?
CinemaCon started out in 2011. And since then, it’s become the premier place for movie theater owners to meet new vendors, and to network.
CinemaCon 2018 is a 3 day convention, with attendees from 80 countries. Their biggest sponsors are companies like Coca-Cola, Barco and Dolby. But there are hundreds of different exhibitors to visit.
CinemaCon 2018 will be held at Ceasar’s Palace in Las Vegas, making it a great getaway from the cold in Minneapolis. I’m looking forward to getting out there, and getting a few days off.
Why should you attend?
Well, if you’re like me, it’s to network. I’m hoping to meet execs from some point of sale companies, as well as people who run theater groups.
But maybe you’re a theater manager? Check out new food vendors, projectors and movie equipment, or even theater seating.
Or if you’re an exhibitor, this could be your big break to get yourself a bunch of new clients right out of the gate.
What’s your favorite part?
There’s so much to see and do, depending on your level of access. If you have full access, there are movie screenings, and meet and greet’s with Hollywood celebs.
I have a simpler pass, that allows me into the convention, but not the crazy VIP stuff. But that can get you in to some exciting stuff too. There are 3 halls for the convention. And the majority of stuff I’m looking for are in 2. You can check out a floorplan of CinemaCon here. Also, they have a pretty cool little CinemaCon 2018 App, that I highly recommend.
CinemaCon 2018 Forum Ballroom
The Forum ballroom has the coolest stuff. It has the majority of food and beverage. Including a hulking booth from the Coca-Cola people. This is a fun place to walk around and try classics like popcorn and cotton candy. But also a great place to try new things like a Bacardi & Coke Slushie at the Coca-Cola booth.
The Forum Ballroom is also where you find the majority of my clients, which are POS companies. You’ll also find theater seating, and some other cool stuff.
I also have a popcorn maker, and I can get 1000 packs of popcorn for it there. And what journey wouldn’t be complete without a soft pretzel?
CinemaCon 2018 Augustus Ballroom
The Augustus Ballroom is more for theater equipment, like projection stuff. Sound Equipment. But it has tons interesting things to see. Things like motion seating, and the future in sound and 3D, that’ll make you feel like you’re part of the movie.
CinemaCon 2018 Milano Demonstration Suite
I don’t spend a lot of time up here. There’s a lot of stuff from Barco, and Christies. So if you’re looking for seating, this could be exactly what you need.
What’s new at this year’s CinemaCon 2018?
Well, sadly you have to go to find out. But I’ll be submitting a full report as soon as I get back. Watch @POSRumor on Twitter, and I’ll make sure to keep you in the loop as things unfold.
